As a single proof of identity set to centralize everything, it simplifies life: making registering, applying and reapplying at countless public and private establishments easier and more seamless.

A simple one-time registration is required. Application is free. And ID validity has no expiry.

With ECQ restrictions in place, all PhilSys registration centers in the NCR region are suspended from August 6 to 20. But this doesn’t mean you can’t get to know the basics so you can register later on. Ahead, everything you need to know about the Philippine National ID System.

What is the Philippine National ID?

An integral part of the Philippine Identification System (or PhilSys for short), the National ID serves as the government’s unified, centralized form of identification for Filipino citizens and resident aliens.

This ID contains a 12-digit number unique to each individual as well as the following personal information: full name, gender, date of birth, home address, blood type and civil status.

Who can register for a National ID?

Registration is open to Filipino citizens living in the Philippines or abroad and of all ages. Those that hold multiple citizenships and foreign nationals that have lived in the Philippines for more than six months are also eligible to apply.

Where can I register?

Eligible citizens can register by first filling out the form online via register.philsys.gov.ph. Here, they must book and schedule an in-person appointment to complete the process. This last leg is where biometric information is captured including a fingerprint scan, iris scan and the taking of a front-facing photograph.

To find a registration center near you, visit the PhilSys website. Registration at select SM malls is also available.

Eligible registrants must bring any of the following primary documents:

  • GSIS or SSS-issued Unified Multi-purpose Identification Card (UMID)
  • Land Transportation Office (LTO)-issued Student’s License Permit or Non-Professional/Professional Driver’s License
  • PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth and one (1) government-issued identification document which bears your full name, front-facing photograph and your signature or thumb mark

  • PSA-issued Certificate of Live Birth/NSO-issued Certificate of Live Birth with Birth Reference Number (BreN)
  • LCRO-issued Certificate of Live Birth
  • PSA-issued Report of Birth

  • Postal ID
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) ID
  • Philhealth ID
  • Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA)-issued Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV)
  • National ID from other countries
  • Residence ID from other countries

Are there any fees involved?

Since registering for the National ID is free, there are no fees involved. In cases of damage or loss, however, citizens will have to shoulder an ID replacement fee.

What happens after registration?

After successfully registering, await the delivery of your PhilSys Number (PSN) and later, your official PhilID, which should be delivered to your indicated address. Your transaction slip or any valid ID will be needed by the courier for verification purposes.
